Could you possibly have some office space in the building

Could you possibly have some office space in the building?

One more question sent in by email.

This seems like it would be a zoning issue. Anyone?

When you ask for office space, do yo want it built into your condo unit or office space on the first floor. There is going to be office space for the Josiah Comm 501c3 on the first floor. Is there interest in building out a cooperative office space?? Like a small office and shared office equip?? We might be able to do it if there is a need and commitment. From developers point would be upsetting to build out space that doesn't get used or pay for itself. Intersted in comments on this.

We would be interested in a condo unit in which to live as well as a unit or units on a lower floor to house our businesses....mine is a 501c3 www.doxasoma.com and my husband's is a production/edit studio www.bucktownpictures.com (not non profit).

Well Arloa, here is your production studio demand showing up already. God just keeps on amazing me! I wonder if there is going to be more demand for office space and should we start planning for it. You know, we got the whole basement that we haven't been talking about. For those intersted, the basement is big, dry, clean, 8 ft ceiling ht but not much windows. Can do lots of stuff down there,... cheaply. So, Metaphor, I think we can accomodate your needs.

My husband is also interested in having some office space. He doesn't need much room, just space for a desk and some bookshelves. The basement would work well. He's a programmer for our business, Madriska Media Group: www.madriska.com.

I just went on metaphor's doxasoma site and we really need (I really need)this program in the building. So, metaphor, how much space, when do you teach (morning, noon, or night), (can an old, stiff relic like me stretch), can we use the space for other things, does it need hardwood floors, come on girl, let's create it.

Arloa, looks like we are getting demand for office space (thank you kediger), so how do we accomodate it. In the business world, there are "shared office" sites that have small, individual offices with a shared conf. room, shared equipment, maybe shared receptionist/staff that might work as a model. Can Josaih 501c3 host it under it's office needs so we don't have too many entities and it's really cost effective? Your call on this one. How much space on the first floor can we allocate to office (I'm thinking to the immediate right of the entrance) without taking away from conference space? (I'm loving this blogging stuff, total stream of thought and it's out there!!!)

Regarding zoning, we have to rezone the property, which is not a huge obstacle but time consuming (and costly). Certain zoning allows for commercial/business on the ground floor and residential above. If you look around Chicago, its on every block. Any office space is going to have to be internal to the building, ie no business entrance to the outside.

At this point I usually will teach out of someone else's space but who knows what life will be like with DoxaSoma in the next couple of years. We just put out our first DVD which is cool...lol.

Basically I just need a wide open room, hardwood floors would be best. We don't use mirrored rooms if we can help it so it can be a multipurpose room.

For the most part I only teach a couple of classes a week but if the opportunity worked out then I have several instructors around Chicago who also might ask to teach a class there. Even so, the space could be used for other purposes as well when not in use for Doxa. I'd like to see an early morning class one day, an afternoon/lunchtime class once a week and an evening class once a week...that's my initial thought.

I do Instructor trainings about 4 times a year on a weekend (sat/sunday) and would also want to run "wellness" programs (free of charge if possible) about body care/spirit care/emotion care...and bring in other speakers as well.

The possibilities are endless, really.
