This is the online home for information and, more importantly, questions about the intentional community we're creating in a condo development in North Lawndale.
When I was growing up, we had all kinds of pets but urban kids don't get that enjoyment. I think we could do something special with kids and pets. We have a natural dog run on a fenced in railroad siding (ours) on the north side of bldg (400+ ft long x 10 ft wide). We also have a 15,000 sf roof top garden with room for some pet and play areas. I was thinking of chickens, egg laying chickens. Let them free roam in the roof top garden areas. We could do 4H projects just like our county cousins. I had a rattlesnake display when I was in college just to let you know how offbeat I am. Maybe a pigeon coop (got lots of them). Rabbits? How about a bird avery in the interior light well? Yeh yeh, dogs and cats too.
This is just me, but it would be great to have a fenced in area on the roof so people with dogs wouldn't have to go down and out all the time to let their dogs out. Our dogs are used to a big fenced in yard but we are working with them more and more to get used to taking walks.
It would be cool to have egg-laying chickens but it would be a lot of work and I think you need a lot of grassy areas.
Please come to the Open House on Sunday, May 18 from 2:00-5:00. We'll meet at 4100 W. Filmore in Chicago.

Welcome home!
This site is a place to share ideas and get answers to questions about the Josiah Community. Please browse through our archives or labels to look at topics that we've discussed in the past. Alternately, post a question in the most recent topic and we'll start a new post with our response. We make all decisions through consensus so everyone's input (even those who are just curious) is important.
